Focus

EQUINE Essentials of Veterinary Chiropractic Course

A horse-focused Essentials route using the shared quadruped chiropractic theory while concentrating practical training on equine assessment and treatment techniques.

Designed for qualified professionals whose clinical work centres on horses, the course applies the IAVC curriculum through equine practical sessions with emphasis on functional pathologies, cases, performance, gait, and lameness issues.

Saddle fit, equine foot considerations, and sport-specific context support practical integration in equine practice. Equine veterinarians and chiropractors expanding their scope to horses are welcome.

Curriculum

Shared theory curriculum.

Theoretical material reviews and integrates the pertinent aspects (for example: anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, neurology, examination, and treatment techniques) from both the veterinary and chiropractic professions as they apply to animal chiropractic. A major portion of time is devoted to learning clinical chiropractic techniques.

Laboratory/practical sessions include techniques, topography, dissection study, examination, and treatment. Written case reports, reading assignments, study of the course notes, and the review and practice of clinical chiropractic techniques constitute the home study portion of the essential course.

Requirements

Assessment and completion.

The Equine Essentials course includes mandatory attendance, structured assessment across the programme, home study and a final theoretical and clinical techniques examination. Completion and certification follow the IAVC requirements for the selected course.

Assessment

Theoretical assessment

Participants can evaluate their progress on the online learning platform with multiple choice questions after every lecture.

At the end of the course participants are required to take a final theoretical examination (multiple choice) on the relevant material covered in the programme.

Practical assessment

Students are tested on their application of the essential animal chiropractic adjusting techniques taught at the previous module. A final practical examination is taken on the last day of classes.

Home study

Home study

Students are encouraged to continue practising chiropractic examination and treatment techniques in between the practical sessions.

Throughout the course, participants are required to hand in written reports of their chiropractic examinations as well as the required full case reports for the selected species or species combination.

Certificate

Certificate after completion.

After successful fulfilment of course requirements, IAVC issues the relevant completion or certification documentation for the selected programme. IAVC certification includes independent external evaluation and is recognised by the Veterinary Society of Chiropractic (VSC) as well as other associations internationally.
